Cooking: 4 Servings: 4 cups water; 1 cup oats. To Make on Stovetop: 1. Bring water to a boil. 2. Slowly stir in the steel cut oats. 3. When oatmeal begins to thicken (about 5 minutes), reduce heat. Simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes (or to desired consistency) stirring occasionally. Note: Steel cuts oats are best prepared on the stovetop. Microwaving steel cut oats is not recommended. Serving Suggestion: Serve with milk, cream or a pat of butter. Add honey, maple syrup, molasses or brown sugar to sweeten. For an added treat add dried fruit, raisins, nuts or a pinch of cinnamon.
