What You'll Need: 6 tbsp unsalted butter; 3 ounces water; cooking spray or butter; two microwave-safe containers; wire whisk; 2 qt mixing bowl; baking sheet. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. 1. Coat Ramekins: Coat sides and bottoms of oven-safe ramekins (Disposable oven-safe ramekins are designed to bake in ovens. Not to exceed 400 degrees F. Ramekins intended for one use only.) thoroughly with cooking spray or butter. Place ramekins on baking tray. 2. Prepare Mix: Melt butter in microwave-safe container on high for 30-60 seconds, or until melted. Empty cake mix packet in bowl, add melted butter and water. Whisk until smooth. 3. Add Chocolate (Note: The enclosed chocolate package contains real premium chocolate pieces. To prevent melting store below 85 degrees F. These chocolate pieces can melt in the package or have natural variation in color. This will not affect the quality of the finished product.): Melt contents of chocolate bits packet in microwave-safe container on high for 1-2 minutes stirring occasionally. Whisk melted chocolate into cake mixture. 4. Fill & Bake: Fill ramekins evenly (approx 1/2 full). Bake on middle rack of preheated oven at 375 degrees F for 15-17 minutes. Cake should be firm around the edge and soft in the center. Do not over bake. 5. Remove Ramekins: Allow to cool for 1 minute. Gripping by rim edge, place serving plate on top of ramekin and invert. Carefully remove ramekin. Caution: Ramekin may be hot. 6. Garnish & Serve: Serve immediately. Chocolate lava flows best when cake is warm. Try garnishing with fruits, powdered sugar, ice cream or whipping cream. Advance Preparation: Prepare mixture up to 3 hours in advance. Fill ramekins evenly, cover, and refrigerate. Remove and allow to warm to room temperature. Bake as in step 4. Delectable Variations: Chocolate-Mocha: In step 2, substitute 3 oz of extra strong coffee for the 3 oz water. Chocolate Peppermint: Add 1/2 tsp peppermint extract to cake mix batter in step 2.
