Stove Top: 1. Mix 3 cups milk, rice pudding mix and 2 tbsp butter or margarine (optional) in 3-quart saucepan until well blended. Bring to boil on medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low. 2. Simmer, uncovered, 45 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. 3. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Rice pudding will thicken as it cools. Sauce will become smooth and creamy. Serve warm or refrigerate at least 2 hours to serve chilled. Stir before serving. For thicker pudding, decrease milk to 2-1/2 cups and simmer for 35 minutes. Microwave: 1. Mix 3 cups milk, 1/2 cup hot water, rice pudding mix and 2 tbsp butter or margarine (optional) in 2-1/2 quart microwavable bowl until well blended. Cover. 2. Microwave on high 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave on medium (50% power) 28 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Let stand in microwave 5 minutes. Serve warm or refrigerate at least 2 hours to serve chilled. Stir before serving. Microwave ovens vary; adjust cooking times as needed. Cooking times are based on an 1100 watt microwave oven. Caution: Bowl and contents will be very hot. Use pot holders when removing from microwave.
